Non Literal Portrait

2/27/2015

Picture© Annie Leibovitz
Portrait Masters  Due 3/20/2015
Make a copy of the document and complete the assignment in Google Docs, Move it to your P4 folder in Google Drive. Find an image from each of the photographers listed including the year, ADDITIONALLY write a complete sentence about what you the photographer is trying to convey about our subject.

When finished, get to know your partner for your portraiture assignment and plan out how you will photograph them. You will be required to show a thumbnail sketch before you can go shoot.

DUE Friday 3/20/2015
Self-Reflection Blog Post
  • What have you decided to title your final piece?
  • What is the deeper meaning that you are conveying about your subject with this Portrait (what makes it more than just the literal “this is a picture of…” and moves it into the more conceptual portrait that reveals something human about the subject and captures the “essence” or soul of the person)?
  • Specifically, what is it about your photograph that makes it an aesthetically pleasing piece of “Fine Art?” (Elements of Arts, Principles of Organization, and/or specific photographic, orcomposition concepts?)
  • What settings did you use and WHY? (shooting mode, aperture, shutter)
  • Specifically, what did you learn while doing this project (technically, compositionally, and/or other)?
  • Did you digitally manipulate your image(s)? If yes, describe in detail what you did in Photoshop (what Photoshop steps did you perform)?
  • What challenges did you have during this project and what step did you take to overcome them? What are you most proud of about this project?
Type your reflection in Google Docs. Copy & paste into your blog along with your finished photo(s).

Non-Literal Self Portrait

2/6/2015

Masters of Self-Portrait Sign in to Google Docs & Create a copy of the Document

Two Self Portrait images, Self Evaluation & Masters due: 2/20

You will be creating Self Portraits from two of the categories:
SIGNATURE
The essential you, what are you known for, how people see you.
PROJECTION
You as someone else, playing a role, becoming something you are not.
SELF STUDY
Looking inside yourself, showing a part of you people do not know, reflective, showing what is on the inside.
FANTASY
Surreal, Fantasy, Dreamlike, Unrealistic.

BLOG POST (Due 2/27 - beginning of class)

After you shoot and edit your 2 self portraits, you will export them as jpegs and upload them to your blog along with your self-reflection. Please include the following for both images in your reflection:
  • What have you decided to title your Self portraits?
  • What types of Self Portrait have you created (Circle: Signature, Projection, Self-Study, or Fantasy)?
  • What is the deeper meaning that you are conveying about yourself with your Self Portraits (what makes it more than just the literal “this is a picture of me”)?
  • Specifically, what is it about your photographs that make each an aesthetically pleasing piece of “Fine Art?” (Elements of Art, Principles of Design, and/or specific photographical compositional concepts?)
  • Specifically, what did you learn while doing this project (technically, compositionally, and/or other)?
  • Did you digitally manipulate your image(s) and what did you do? (levels, layer masks, etc...)
  • What corrections/changes would you make to your self portraits?

You must show Ms. McKay thumbnail sketches and explain the idea behind each of your images before you can go shoot. Planning is, more often than not, the key to a successful image.
